Driving and
sports: does that sound easy for you?
I am sure nobody
has ever asked you about your driving skills and if you have ever felt
conscious while driving or felt a kind of fear with speed. May be your answer
would be no however there are people in this world who have experienced this
fear, this consciousness. This would sound familiar to people because they can
think of it as a speed fear or some other things happening around. But no, this
is different, background behind anxietywhile driving has a deep meaning. May be this could happen to you 3 or 4
times, what if it would do on regular terms. You would surely get fed up with
this.
Now, this is related to ADHD i.e. Attention
Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder that causes people to feel anxious while driving
or doing something that needs adrenaline rush and this is a bigger picture than
normal. You may now relate it with a feeling of riding on ferris wheel. Feel
like when you are driving and your hands suddenly become cold, your skin
temperature changes, breathing becomes abnormal, increase in heart rate- may be
now you have started to think what I am trying to say. This happens with some
people suffering from ADHD and that too on regular basis whenever they drive,
whenever they dance or related to do some sports activity.
What I have said
above is just one part of ADHD, there are some other factors affecting this
also like this can lead learning or speech disability. ADHD sufferers are not
able to catch things properly or they take time to grasp knowledge, that’s why
we have different schools for special children so that they won’t feel out of
the box and their situation become worse.
One such preventive measure for this is biofeedback for anxiety
as in layman terms it can be explained as controlling your behaviour. As I have
said before people suffering from ADHD continue to move because they cannot
over themselves. That is why this treatment is very useful for them. Under this
treatment Heart rate, skin temperature, muscle activity and sweating all these
things have been measured and tried to improve. Several sessions are needed for
the patients to understand it properly so that they start contributing towards
this.
